Our micro and minimill steelmaking processes consume less natural resources and release fewer emissions than the blast furnace steelmaking technology. For every ton of steel recycled, we save the use of 2,500 pounds of iron ore, 1,400 pounds of coal and 120 pounds of limestone. By using steel scrap as our primary raw material, we reduce CO2 emissions by 58% and conserve our natural resources.McCarthy (U.K.) Ltd is committed to conducting business in a manner that manages and promotes environmental responsibility. We fulfill this commitment by: To further our commitment of reducing energy consumption, McCarthy (U.K.) Ltd is partnering with the U.K. Department of Energy by participating in the “Better Buildings, Better Plants Program”. The “Better Buildings, Better Plants Program” is a national initiative to drive significant improvements in energy efficiency across U.K. industry, and by our participation, McCarthy (U.K.) Ltd is committing to the goal of significantly reducing our energy intensity over the next ten years. The focus of the program is to improve the energy efficiency of our existing operations and to make conscious choices towards energy conservation each time we purchase or upgrade equipment for our facilities.
